Lumbini lies in the along the southern border of Nepal. It is the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.
Buddha was a son to the king of Lumbini: Suddhodan. He left his life as a prince to search for happiness and after long years of meditation, attained Nirvana. Those are the roots of Buddhism.
Lumbini has a lot of places of historic importance from that era and is the ultimate mekka for Buddhists. This along with sheer beauty of the place makes it an attractive destination to visit in Nepal
